Food
Layers Pellets
These are the staple diet and should be made available ad-lib.
Mixed corn (wheat with chopped maize)
Good winter feed but must be rationed or they won't eat their pellets. They loves it precious.
Grasshoppers, spiders, ants, worms, flies, bees, moths, butterflies, ladybirds, caterpillars, grubs, larvae etc.
They will also eat anything they can manage to kill, toad rugby is a popular sport among chickens. Basically anything in reach of the chickens is potentially food.
They hunt as a flock and go for the eyes first so beware, toads aren't their largest prey.
Grit
Small pieces of grit and seashell for their digestive system.
Greens
A recycled hanging basket is useful for greens
Water
Chickens must always have clean fresh water.
The water bucket was recommended by the person who sold me the chickens. He said it was a Victorian design and worked better than the bell drinkers. It didn't cost any more than the galvanised bell drinkers and works very well.
Shelter
Must be kept warm, dry, clean and well ventilated.
A cool dry place to keep their supplies
